Lazy morning. Took my time getting clean and organized before heading to the ATC. Everyone but man child had already left for DC or hit the trail. I would have gone earlier but I still had not yet resupplied.
Trail magic appears in the most unexpected places sometimes. Long story short, I was getting a list of numbers for shuttles to see if I could get a ride to the grocery (6miles) when an employee asked someone else for me if they would give me a ride. So, I met the McLeods. A 1979 thru hiker and his family drove me to the grocery AND insisted on paying for my resupply. They said they are paying it forward but I simply feel very grateful, and wish I could express how very remarkable it is to see and be a part of people taking care of people. I will pass it on. I think that’s the best way to show my gratitude. Good people.
Good bye harpers ferry. Left town at 1:30. Got 16 miles to a new and nice shelter, rocks run. I’m 1+ miles from some of the crew, so I’ll get up early and surprise them. Wide load, moose, and AYCE, here I come!
Update* it is now 5/13, made it to dahlgren campground by 7 am where I found them. Aiming for 28 miles today. Weird shelter spacing. Easy terrain.
